
We
provide a comprehensive presentation which will be 90
minutes in duration and includes a 20 minute video "A
Guide to the Diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome". The
presenters will introduce themselves. Audience interaction
during the powerpoint presentation is encouraged. The
focus will be on the following areas of concern and
their impacts on educating the T.S. child.

PRESENTERS
Ruth and Rick Hensley have been a mainstay in the Tourette
Community for well over a decade. They have been responsible
for most of the lectures, inservices and workshops for
Tourette Syndrome across southern Ontario. They are
well respected by both the medical community that deals
with Tourette Syndrome and numerous public and separate

Ruth
Hensley: She is a Tourette sufferer who was
severe in her youth but has been in remission for over
25 years. She is the current Ombudsman and a co founder
of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Ontario. She
is a former president of the Brampton-Peel Chapter for
T.S. a position she held for 7 years and a former National
Director of the T.S. Foundation of Canada. She was a
recipient of a National Award by the T.S.F.C for fundraising.
She has medical background in psychiatry and geriatrics.
She has been on both National and Local television discussing
Tourette issues and is part of an RCMP video entitled
"Not the Usual Suspects".
Rick
Hensley: He is a member of the Toronto Police
Service, currently assigned to the Forensic Identification
Service. He is the current Executive Director of the
Tourette Syndrome Association of Ontario and a co founder.
He was the recipient of the Chief of Police Award for
community involvement in T.S. and has been awarded the
National Public Awareness Award by the Tourette Syndrome
Foundation of Canada. He previously sat on the Special
Education Advisory Committee for the Peel Board of Education
representing T.S. He has appeared on Local television
discussing T.S. issues.

Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution.

They were responsible for initiating with the Peel Regional
Police the only existing registry for T.S. sufferers
with rage and aggression and or obsessions to weapons.
Run the only 24 hours T.S. support and information line
in Canada.

Initiated and were responsible for distributing video
tapes and medical packages to the approximate 1200 general
practitioners in the Region of Peel resulting in that
region having the highest rate of diagnosis in Ontario.

Sat on a vertical work team with the Peel Public School
Board to investigate alternatives to suspension for
Developmentally Challenged Children.

Annual Speakers at the Council For Exceptional Children.
Speakers at two Hospital Grand Rounds, Chedoke McMaster
and Osler Medical Center. They
have done lectures and workshops for all of the following.
Halton Children Aid, Woodview Children's Treatment Center,
Peel Children's Centre, Charlestown Residential and
Treatment Center, Humber College, University of Toronto,
Brock University, Probation Services, Community and
Social Services, Group Homes, Senior Citizen Homes and
Day Care Centers.
